In the kingdom of ‘Harlowtopia’ far, far away, a beautiful princess awaits her true love’s kiss to awaken her from a deep slumber. But beware! The wicked fairy Carabosse has cast a spell, and only the bravest heroes can break it. Will good triumph over evil and save the day? Get ready to boo, hiss, and cheer as our talented cast, including Harlow favourites Ben Parsley and Jimmy Burton-Iles, take you on a magical ride through panto land. With spectacular costumes and scenery, toe-tapping tunes, and plenty of surprises along the way, this is one pantomime you won’t want to miss!
It's not Christmas in this household until we've seen the Harlow pantomime, and for the fourth consecutive year, it didn't disappoint. Sleeping Beauty is this year's production, and it's even dreamier than you could imagine (it's a panto review - of course I have to add puns!). Once again Harlow Playhouse and KD Theatre Productions have teamed up to create the panto of the festive season.

Daniel Bell & Ben Parsley's script is the perfect balance of silliness, chaos, wit and hidden innuendos for all of the adults in the audience. Parsley, as always, delivers the best gags of the show and his chemistry with resident Harlow Dame, Jimmy Burton-Iles is incredible; a truly unstoppable duo and their respect and love for each other is clear onstage. The pair have both been a part of Harlow pantomimes for over a decade and without a doubt, they are the heart and soul of the production each year.

Philip the Valet, played by Samuel Sarpong-Broni, is a scene-stealer with his smooth vocals and unwavering kindness as the prince's valet. Prince Fiyero, played by Max James Hodge, is utterly brilliant and provides some of the most unexpected laughs of the show with his overdramatic nature as the prince, that we somehow love to hate. Aurora, played by Grace Chapman, is the unconventional heroine in this pantomime, and what a refreshing change to see the Princess saving the day! She's independent, headstrong, but manages to have a pure and sweet blossoming relationship with Philip. Whenever the duo are together, it's difficult not to "ooh" and "ahh"!

A particular aspect I love about this annual pantomime is that it all feels so familiar, but with modern takes and fresh twists. Once again, Claire Cassidy returns with wickedly fun choreography and James Maciver & Christopher Hardcastle are back with the most outrageously bedazzled costumes you'll ever see. I'm sure Jimmy Burton-Iles gets more costume changes with every passing year!

The song choices were spectacular, and a lot of fun for all the family. However, as a musical theatre fan, this is where my heart will always lie, and with songs from Legally Blonde, Frozen and Les Misérables, I was not disappointed. Chapman's voice in particular was outstanding, and she commandeered the stage with a quiet ease.

The special effects and set design this year has really been taken up a notch. With a giant screen that was used to incorporate all audience members (there's no escaping this year, adults!) and a life-size animatronic dragon worthy of a West End stage, you'll really be able to feel the magic this festive season.

A wickedly funny pantomime, bursting with colour and vibrancy, which somehow manages to capture the true joy of Christmas year after year. One thing's for sure, you'll be leaving Harlow Playhouse with a smile on your face once again...oh yes you will!
