Murder She Didn't Write

Rating: ★★★★
Venue: Duchess Theatre, London

Don your deerstalker, grab your magnifying glass and get your ‘finger of suspicion’ at the ready because Edinburgh Fringe favourites, Degrees of Error, are bringing back their multiple sell-out show for your sleuthing pleasure.

They’ll create a classic murder mystery on-the-spot in this ingenious improvised comedy. You, the audience, become the author as the cast act out your very own Agatha Christie-inspired masterpiece live on stage. At each show this extraordinarily talented company use audience suggestions to create a unique, original and extremely comical murder mystery just for you. All you have to do... is solve it!

Murder mystery musicals aren't hard to find, and neither are improvised comedies. However, finding a show that does both, and does it so well? There's only one place for that!

Last night, it was at the Duchess Theatre in London, but you might see it in venues across the country as it embarks on a new tour in 2026. Murder She Didn't Write is exactly what it suggests - an Agatha Christie x Cluedo inspired live performance that is devised entirely on the spot.

A cast of six actors work in tandem with each other and the audience to create a full length, 2 act play, about… literally anything where someone gets killed. Everything from the script, song(s), lighting design, and sound effects are made up there and then, so not only is the content they produce hilarious - but watching them do it in real time is even funnier! Special shout outs must go to Peter Baker and Douglas Walker for making my ribs ache with laughter the entire time.

The chemistry between each of the actors, given how many are on rotation within the company, is superb. Witnessing MULTIPLE impromptu make out scenes really highlighted how much of a team they must be to pull something like this off, and to such a high standard.

There were a few moments where the pace dropped a little, as is to be expected in a production like this; however if some performers had a slightly quicker wit in certain scenes, I feel this would have been less noticeable.

I had the joy of sitting right next to the lighting/sound desk and hearing the technicians whisper their ideas to each other, followed by giggles when they blacked out on the actors while they were mid-conversation!

For an easy and enjoyable night out, tickets for Murder She Didn't Write should definitely be on your list to Santa this year.
