Shantify
Rating: ★★★★
Venue: Palais du Variété, Edinburgh

This nautical musical adventure starring a crew of West End wonderboys was the talk of Fringe 2024. Join us as we turn show tunes, rock classics and pop bangers into superb sea shanties and weave them into a joyous story. You will not want to miss the rib-tickling brilliance of the songs that we Shantify – the harmonies these boys produce will knock your socks off!

For fans of Choir Of Man (although less upbeat), Come From Away (without such an emotional storyline), and Fisherman's Friends (minus the cool set).

Shantify has already announced a transfer to the West End which is unsurprising given how enjoyable it was to watch. With a cracking cast, clever compositions, and sole-stomping songs, this hour long version of what feels like needs to be a longer musical is a hot ticket at this year's fringe festival!

I'd love to award this show a full five stars, however the overly exposed storyline meant that characters felt two-dimensional at times and, while this clearly has plans to be resolved when given a more lengthy time slot, I'd have loved to see a piece that demonstrated depth in its current state.
