Hi Trevor, how are you doing today? Thanks so much for chatting to Stage to Page! Would you mind introducing yourself to our readers?
Hello, I’m Trevor Payne and I’m the producer and director of the longest running touring rock ‘n’ roll theatre show in the country.
You're currently touring for the 39th consecutive year with your smash-hit show, That'll Be The Day. Can you tell us what people can expect from the show?
They can expect a very entertaining journey through the popular decades, intersperse with comedy routines and impressions. It is sure to bring back memories for the audience which has been supporting us for 40 years.
What do you think it is about the production that's made it so hugely successful with audiences?
It changes every year but maintains a high standard. It’s the only show we know that tours which includes the ingredients of comedy, impersonations and pop music from the 50s to the 80s that is played and sung accurately. It has everything you need for a great night out.
How has the production adapted and grown over the years?
We have invested into the show over the years. We carry an enormous around of equipment and the cast is hand-picked to ensure great quality. We endeavour that each production is an improvement of the one before.
As well as entertaining countless amounts of audience members, you've also managed to raise over £1 million for charity in post-show collections! How does it feel to be making such a positive impact for charity, as well as in society?
It feels amazing. We’re in a privileged position to collect money for charities. Our audiences, as they’re going out from the theatre on a high, are happy to give to the charity that we’re supporting. We’ve supported many charities over the years and we’re happy to continue doing so.
My blog is called Stage to Page. But if you could turn any book, from page to stage, what would it be and why?
The Dice Man. When I read it, I thought someone would make a film out of it. It’s a fantastic book.
And finally, why should people book tickets to the UK tour of That'll Be The Day?
Because they are going to have the best night out in theatre! We guarantee they will leave the theatre feeling better than when they came in.
