POP OFF, MICHELANGELO | RAPID REVIEW

Pop Off, Michelangelo
Rating: ★★★★★
Venue: Underbelly Boulevard, London
Cast: Max Eade, Aidan MacColl, Michael Marouli, Kurran Dhand, Aoife Haakenson, Sev Keoshgerian and Laura Sillett

POP OFF, MICHELANGELO! is the musical comedy about besties-turned-bitter rivals Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. After realising they’re both gay, the two childhood friends attempt to earn divine forgiveness by becoming the greatest religious artists of all time. Can Michelangelo gaslight, gatekeep, and girlboss his way to the Vatican? Will Leonardo shut up about his helicopter?

Pop Off, Michelangelo is back, bolder, brighter and as delightful as ever.

After a dazzling run at the fringe and a two-night-only engagement at The Other Palace, Pop Off, Michelangelo opened at The Underbelly Boulevard in Soho and no expense was spared to give this show the glitz it deserves.

With Aidan MacColl and Max Eade reprising their roles as Leo and Mike, I knew we were in for a treat. Their chemistry together, their comedic timing and superb singing voices make a perfect match for the material. Written by Dylan Marcaurele, this show has something really unique, and it’s that it perfectly transitions from laugh-out-loud moments to wholesome reflections on faith, friendship and what truly matters in life.

The Pope, played by Michael Marouli was just delightful. So camp, so funny, so ridiculously on point, I’d be back to see his performance alone.

Pop Off, Michelangelo is booking until July 13 at The Underbelly Boulevard. You can watch our reel to find out more, here.
