IF I HAD YOU | THOUGHTS

If I Had You is a brand-new musical comedy scripted workshop from the producer of the smash-hit The Drifter's Girl, Tina Treadwell and Kenny D'Aqulia

A story of love, loss and hope set in the eternal city of Rome as one man's heart takes him on the journey of a lifetime. Don't miss this extraordinary showcase of a fantastical story that shows that love never goes away even though the years have.

This is a scripts in hand workshop having its UK debut.

An unfortunately uninspired and under-rehearsed showing of a new musical comedy...however it wasn't particularly funny, nor musically marvelous. With very few memorable tunes and even fewer discernible plot points, even a commendable cast can't save this one. The story is confusing in and of itself, as we flit between time periods with our protagonist reminiscing about his crush on a 10 year old version of his schoolmate. Chelsea Halfpenny then takes on the older presentation of this role and does so with not only phenomenal talent but also poise and grace while navigating an awkward script and songs with too many dance breaks (for a production with no choreography). Emma Kingston seems to acknowledge this in her solo numbers - conducted with a very healthy belt might we add - by adding entertaining adlibs throughout and breaking the palpable tension that builds in these moments of uncomfortable stillness. Overall, it is unclear how the show has made it so far, and it seems unlikely that it will be returning to the West End anytime soon.
