Everybody's Talking About Jamie
Rating: ★★★★
Venue: Newcastle Theatre Royal
Cast: Finton Flynn, John Partridge, Shobna Gulati, Rebecca McKinnis and Giovanna Fletcher

Jamie New is sixteen and lives on a council estate in Sheffield. Jamie doesn’t quite fit in. Jamie is terrified about the future. Jamie is going to be a sensation. Supported by his brilliant loving mum and surrounded by his friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness, into the spotlight.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is a celebration of being unapologetically different and yourself in a world that doesn’t want you to be anything but normal and realistic. Understudy Jamie, Finton Flynn, made dancing in platform heels look effortless, John Partridge flexed all of his stage muscles as Hugo and Loco Chanel, and Shobna Gulati stole every scene she was in, fierce and funny, just like the musical as a whole. But it has to be said that the performance of the show goes to Rebecca McKinnis’, "He’s My Boy," for the broken sob mid lyric, heart-breaking, and beautiful.
