5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD SEE MOULIN ROUGE

In the past few years, Moulin Rouge has taken the musical theatre world by storm, in both Broadway and the West End. It seems as though it's here to stay, with booking already having been extended to mid 2024. The standout number of the show is "Come What May". However, did you know that this song wasn't originally going to be in the movie adaptation? It was instead supposed to used in another of Baz Luhrmann's classics, Romeo & Juliet. But what is it about Moulin Rouge that is so irresistible to audiences? Here are my top 5 reasons to go and visit the most extravagant event currently in London's West End.

1. Unforgettable Vocals
One thing's for sure, Moulin Rouge attracts the best talent the West End has to offer. From Jamie Muscato, to Tanisha Spring, to Jamie Bogyo, to Matt Rixon - the cast, both past and present, are dripping with talent. While the show is a spectacle to remember, strip it all back and you're left with vocals that'll leave you wide-eyed with awe.

2. Mind-Blowing Choreography
Choreography is such a huge part of Moulin Rouge, and the choreo from Sonya Tayeh is certainly a sight to behold. From subtle slow-paced songs, to full-scale showstopping numbers, it's choreographed to absolute perfection. It incorporates so many wonderful dance styles, which means there's something for everyone. It goes without saying that Backstage Romance is my favourite dance number. This particular scene in Moulin Rouge is one of the best scenes in musical theatre, in my opinion. It's sharp, concise and hypnotic to witness.

3. Breath-taking Costumes
When you think of Moulin Rouge, it's likely you'll think of luxury, extravagance and drama. While the sets are fantastic, it's the costume designs by Catherine Zuber that elevate Moulin Rouge to the next level. Oozing with sexiness and dripping with diamonds; the costumes are both sensational and unforgettable.

4. Brimming With Songs You Already Know & Love
While jukebox musicals may not be for everyone, it's definitely one of the reasons I love Moulin Rouge! With over 70 (!) songs, you'll be sure to have a favourite already among the track list. From Diamond Are a Girl's Best Friend, to Shut Up and Dance!, to Your Song; the songs span the decades - and they're all brilliant.

5. Because You Can-Can-Can!
This may seem like an obvious one, but with the several recent closures of incredible West End shows, you'll want to grab tickets to this show while you can! It's currently booking up to March 2024, and it's not one to be missed. Moulin Rouge makes for the perfect night out in London, and one you won't be forgetting in a hurry!
