THAT'S A WRAP: WEEKLY WEST END WRAP-UP #1


This is a brand new segment on the site called That's a Wrap! Every Saturday, we'll go over the top stagey stories from the week, in what we're calling the Weekly West End Wrap-Up. With so much news being shared daily, sometimes it's easier to catch up in one place. So here's the top stagey stories from this week. 

Newsies Date and Venue Confirmed

The show will have a strictly limited run at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. Performances start on 28th November 2022. Tickets will go on sale in May, with cast to be announced later in the year.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella Confirmed

The production was set to open in 2020 at the Hope Mill Theatre, Manchester. The pandemic had other ideas and it has been postponed ever since. However, it's been confirmed that Rodger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella will open at Hope Mill from 1 November to 11 December 2022. You can book tickets here.

The Drifters Girl Has Been Extended

It's now been confirmed that The Drifters Girl has been extended at the Garrick Theatre until 12 February 2023! Currently, Beverley Knight leads the cast, but she has announced that her final show will be on 2 July 2022. No further cast announcements have been made yet. 

Olivier Awards Nominees Revealed

We finally know the nominees for this year's Olivier Awards. Unsurprisingly, the revival of Cabaret received the most nominations - with an incredible 11 nominations. Other popular shows among the nominations were Anything Goes, Life of Pi, Back to the Future and Moulin Rouge! the Musical. You can find the full list of nominees here.


K-pop Musical Icon to Start Workshopping This Month

K-pop has taken the world by storm, and it may just be taking over the West End too! Icon will tell a story based around a fictional K-pop group. Workshops begin this month, and also in June of this year. The show has set it's sights on the West End, so we may see a new show hitting a West End stage very soon.

The Joy of Text for One Night Only

The show will host a star-studded line up of guests (Tamsin Greig, Pearl Mackie, Aki Omoshaybi, Nicholas Pinnock, Iwan Rheon and Catherine Tate to name a few) reading the funniest text message exchanges, sent in by the public.

Carousel Cast Confirmed

The production of Carousel will run at Kilworth House in Leicestershire from 24 May to 3 July. The cast and ensemble include: Emma Kingston (Julie Jordan), Matt Blaker (Billy Bigelow), Julie Yamannee (Carrie Pipperidge), Tom Sterling (Enoch Snow), Madalena Alberto (Nettie Fowler), George Maddison (Jigger Craigin) and Lara Denning (Mrs Mullin), Genevieve Heron (Louise Bigelow), Kevin Brewis (Mr. Bascombe), Charles Butcher (Young Enoch), Alastair Postlewaite (Carnival Boy) and Alan Vicary (Dr Seldon).

Ensemble members are: Stuart Rouse, Gareth Moran, Diante Lodge, Luke Jarvis, Rhodri Watkins, Joseph Craig, Libby Watts, Rebecca Jayne French, Alice Readie, Aoife Kenny, Chloe Saunders and Jemima Lody.

Bad Jews Returning to the West End

With it's 10 year anniversary fast approaching, Bad Jews is set to return to the West End this year! It will have a strictly limited season at the Arts Theatre from 14 July to 25 September. Casting to be announced.

Interestingly, Bonnie and Clyde have already hinted they may be extending their run. If this is true, the extension of Bonnie and Clyde will find a new home, as Bad Jews will be taking over at the Arts Theatre.

Back to the Future Cast Recording Released

New Members of the Waitress Cast Confirmed

This is incredibly exciting news. David Hunter is set to return as Dr Pomatter in Llandudno from 30 March to 2 April 2022. From 30 May, he will take over the role full-time. Wendy Mae Brown will take over as Becky from 30 March 2022.

Carrie Hope Fletcher Leaving Date for Cinderella Confirmed

Cinderella is currently playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre. Carrie has confirmed that she will leave the show on 13 July. The show is currently booking until February 2023; so I wonder when we'll know who our new Cinderella will be.

Heathers the Musical Extends at the Other Palace

Heathers was due to close at the Other Palace on 1 May 2022. However, they announced this week that the show has been extended until 4 September 2022; with tickets for the extension yet to go on sale. 

Get Up, Stand Up! Extends at the Lyric Theatre

Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical can now be booked until at the Lyric Theatre until 29 January 2023. You can book tickets up until January 2023 here.

Bonnie and Clyde Starts Rehearsals

The West End production of Bonnie and Clyde starts it's previews on April 9 2022 at The Arts Theatre. It was confirmed on Instagram that rehearsals began Friday 11 March. Check out this new photo from Frances' (Bonnie) Instagram. Is anyone else as ridiculously excited for Bonnie and Clyde as me?
