PROUD CABARET: AMBER DAVIES | REVIEW

Proud Cabaret: Amber Davies
Rating: ★★★★★
Venue: Proud Embankment, London
Cast: Amber Davies, Jessicats, J'Adore La Vie, Lady Lydia, Ego Valentino and many more!

Proud Embankment proudly presents it's newest, hottest show: Cabaret All-Stars, a Vegas-style production brought to London's West End, hosted by Winner of Love Island and TV sensation - Amber Davies.

This is a high octane show, featuring award-winning acrobats, fire breathers and burlesque beauties. Be prepared to be amazed. This is an unforgettable night out.

I'll start this review by saying that I've never attended a cabaret show before, and wasn't really sure what to expect. I bought tickets to the show to support Amber Davies, who's run in Bring It On the Musical had just been cut short due to covid. Amber truly shone in Bring It On, so I was excited to see her in a different setting.

Tickets to the show usually cost £48. This comes with a 3 course meal, a glass of prosecco and the show. I managed to nab tickets when they were half price, so for £24 - it was an incredibly cheap night! It's also worth mentioning that I'm gluten intolerant and their gluten free options (as well as vegan) were brilliant.

As I walked up to Proud Embankment, there was a red carpet laid out and the setting is full of glitz and glamour - it was far more lavish than I was expecting. We were taken to our table, which was marked as "restricted seating", but the view couldn't have been more perfect.

We were told to arrive by 6:30pm, but the show doesn't start until 7:30pm - so it is quite a wait. But from the moment it began, it was definitely worth it and I was completely blown away by the performances and the atmosphere that came with it.

Let's talk about Amber. As the host of the show, she was the main event and I eagerly awaited her performances that were sporadically spaced throughout the show. She sang five songs throughout the three hour show:

  • One Night Only - Dreamgirls
  • I Love Rock and Roll - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
  • Hopelessly Devoted to You - Grease
  • Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwood
  • It's Raining Men - the Weather Girls

The standout performance for me was It's Raining Men, where Amber donned a red full length dress, got soaking wet (literally - there was rain!) and swung from the ceiling - it was very dramatic! However, Before He Cheats was my favourite vocally. It's one of my all time favourite songs, and was paired with some incredible fire artistry

Amber aside, the evening was full of astounding talent that I really wasn't anticipating. Some memorable performances were Jessicats' breathtaking burlesque to "Pour Some Sugar On Me", Lady Lydia and Shade Flamewater's fire art to "Earned It" and the mind-blowing dancing duo who danced to "Run Me Like a River".

The show is oozing with sexiness and every act shines with their own set of skills. A huge shoutout goes to Ego Valentino who sent the crowd absolutely wild whenever they were on stage. Their burlesque is truly a sight to behold.

There were quite a few breaks throughout the show to enjoy the food, order drinks and use the facilities which was much appreciated - as I didn't want to miss a second. The food was enjoyable, particularly the dessert of white chocolate parfait. And drinks were reasonably priced for a London bar (£8 for a large wine).

If you're looking for an evening full of sex appeal, binary breaking, overwhelming talent and fantastic music - this is the show for you. Amber is an absolute pocket rocket and I can't wait to see what she does next. I'm hoping to squeeze in another visit before the show ends in May.
